With the first decline of automobile sales in 28 years in China, the automobile industry will enter the era of cost competition, which means that automobile enterprises will streamline their cost management even further. There are some problems in the management of logistics cost in automobile enterprises, especially the inbound transportation management of imported parts, such as poor management precision, strong decentralization, small scale advantage and low operation efficiency.Behind these problems are the issues of the small proportion of inbound transportation of imported parts in the overall logistics of automotive enterprises;the numerous links and complex operation process involved in inbound transportation of imported parts;the high professional requirements of customs clearance operation;and the limited potentials in loading rate for imported parts shipped by containers. All of these made it difficult for automotive enterprises to effectively manage the inbound transportation of imported parts.Solving the problem requires a study of the whole process of inbound transportation of imported parts, however, most of studies on inbound transportation operations focus on the planning of inbound logistics and recycling mode of domestically purchased parts, and seldom involve the inbound logistics of imported parts.Based on Queuing Theory and activity cost optimization method, this paper studies the optimization process of inbound transportation mode of imported parts in automobile manufacturer company A,taking Drop and Pull Transport as the realization path. The method of case study is adopted in this paper.Firstly, the relevant data of case enterprises are collected through field visits and research, and the inbound transportation operation of company A is divided into three modes, namely, the first stage of warehouse direct delivery mode, the second stage of in-plant container yard mode, and the optimized Drop and Pull Transport mode. This paper combs through the specific processes of the three modes and analyses and compares them from the perspective of activity time and activity cost. The six evaluation indicators of Queuing Theory are used to study the activity time: system load level, system idle probability, queue length, staying time and waiting time. The optimization process in terms of activity time of the three modes of inbound transportation in Company A is analyzed and summarized.Activity cost is studied by using activity cost analysis method. From the point of view of specific links and resources used, the optimization process in terms of activity cost of the three modes of inbound transportation in Company A is analyzed.Through the study on the optimization process of inbound transportation modes of company A,this paper reveals the processes and methods of improving logistics efficiency and reducing logistics cost of company A by shortening queuing time, reducing intermediate links, and improving the utilization rate of equipment and facilities in inbound transportation of imported parts.
