From the third Plenary session of the 16 th CPC Central Committee to the 19 th CPC National Congress, regional coordinated development strategy has always been an important strategic plan for China's economic development.Since the opening of the Beijing-Tianjin inter-city railway in 2008,China has carried out large-scale high-speed rail construction. The development of high-speed rail networking has greatly promoted regional economic connectivity and affected the speed and quality of regional economic development. It has a catalytic effect on the evolution of regional economic spatial pattern. However, the effect of high-speed rail on the spatial pattern of regional economy has not yet reached a unified conclusion, and whether it is conducive to the coordinated development of regional economy remains to be further explored. Therefore, the thesis focuses on the impact of high-speed rail on the regional economic spatial pattern,in order to clarify the real impact of high-speed rail on the regional economic spatial pattern along the route, and guide high-speed rail to promote the coordinated development of regional economy. The thesis first combs the causes and internal mechanisms of the two possible effects of high-speed rail on the spatial pattern of regional economy: polarization effect or diffusion effect.Second, choosing 254 prefecture-level cities of China and ten urban agglomerations as a sample of the study.Application gradual DID Method of to inquiry the real impact of High-speed railway on the regional economic spatial pattern and urban agglomeration along the route on the angle of opening High-speed railway cities and not open High-speed railway cities and the angle of opening cities.Among them, based on the distance from the central city as the basis for the overall impact of the high-speed railway on the economic spatial pattern along the line, the analysis of the law of distance attenuation. In order to the analysis of the law of distance attenuation, the thesis takes the distance from the central city as the basis division to test the overall impact of the high-speed railway on the economic spatial pattern along the line.At the same time,it is explored whether the heterogeneous impact of high-speed railways on urban agglomerations is related to the regional economic gap and high-speed railway coverage. Finally, verifying the mechanism of this research from the perspective of capital flow and labor mobility and discussing endogenous issues. The following conclusions were obtained:(1)High-speed railway has a polarized effect on the regional economic pattern of the high-speed railway city and the unopened high-speed railway city, and the production factors are concentrated in the space where the high-speed railway city is opened. The siphon effect of the central city on the unopened high-speed railway city from 100 km to 200 km is particularly significant, and the polarization of the regional economic spatial pattern is significant.(2)The high-speed railway also has a polarization effect on the economic spatial pattern between the cities that open high-speed railways. The central city has a stronger siphon effect on non-central cities that open high-speed railways within 200 km to 400 km.The polarization is more significant.(3)Capital flows and labor mobility are the two major mechanisms that cause high-speed railways to change regional economic patterns.(4)There are regional differences in the impact of high-speed railway on the economic spatial pattern of the two angles of each urban agglomeration. The opening of high-speed railways and the unopened high-speed railways, the Yangtze River Delta agglomerations and Ha-chang urban agglomerations have shown significant diffusion effects, and the Central Plains urban agglomerations and the western coastal urban agglomerations are dominated by polarization effects; In areas with high coverage of high-speed railways, large regional initial economic gaps, and cities with leading economic development levels, the opening of high-speed railways is conducive to narrowing the regional economic gap and easily spreading the regional economic spatial pattern. At the level of the high-speed railway, the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration and the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration are mainly characterized by a diffusion effect, and the Central Plains urban agglomeration has a significant polarization effect. In addition, this paper uses the instrumental variable method and the generalized moment estimation method to discuss the potential endogenous problems in the model;the replacement core variables and placebo test methods are used to test the robustness of the model. Finally, relevant policy recommendations are proposed on how to achieve regional coordinated development by means of high-speed railway.
