This experiment was conducted to study the effects of dietary different chitosan supplemental levels on growth performance, slaughter performance, nutrient utilization, intestinal development and intestinal microbial composition of geese, explore the dietary optimal chitosan supplemental level for geese, and preliminary discussion of its mechanism of action.Three hundred and sixty 14-day-old healthy male Yangzhou geese with similar body weight were randomly divided into 5 groups with 6 replicates per group and 12 geese per replicate.Geese in the control group were fed a basal diet, and the other geese in the experimental groups were fed experimental diets supplemented with 250,500,1000 and 2000 mg/kg chitosan, respectively. The experiment lasted for 56 days. The effects of chitosan on growth performance, slaughter performance, nutrient utilization, intestinal development, cecal microorganisms and other aspects of the effects of chitosan to explore its application effect, and explore the dietary optimal supplemental level. The results were shown as follows:1.500 mg/kg chitosan treatment group significantly increased the body weight at the age of 42,56 and 70 days, average daily feed intake and average daily gain at each stage of geese(P<0.05),but significantly decreased the ratio of feed to gain at each stage of geese(P<0.05).1000 mg/kg,2000 mg/kg chitosan treatment groups decreased body weight, average daily feed intake and average daily gain(P<0.05),increased ratio of feed(P<0.05).2.500 mg/kg chitosan treatment group significantly increased the heart index, liver index, spleen index, jejunum index, ileum index, cecum index of geese(P<0.05),but significantly decreased percentage of abdominal fat and fat content in muscle(P<0.05).3.Compared with the 2000 mg/kg chitosan treatment groups,250 and 500 mg/kg chitosan treatment group significantly increased the apparent utilization rate of crude fat(P<0.05),and compared with the control group 500 mg/kg chitosan treatment group significantly decreased apparent utilization rate of dry matter(P<0.05).4.500 mg/kg chitosan treatment group significantly increased length and weight, villus height and muscle thickness, but decreased crypt depth of duodenum,jejunum,ileum(P<0.05).1000 mg/kg and 2000 mg/kg chitosan treatment groups significantly decreased villus height, but increased crypt depth of duodenum,jejunum,ileum(P<0.05).5.500 mg/kg chitosan treatment group significantly increased the relative abundance of firmicutes, streptococcus, peptococcus, ruminococcaceae, but significantly decreased the relative abundance of Bacteroidetes,Proteobacteria,Megamonas. The similarity degree decreased between 500 mg/kg chitosan treatment group and the control group, and the similarity degree increased when chitosan increased to 1000 mg/kg,2000 mg/kg,the similarity is 0.34.In summary, the groups supplemented with 250 mg/kg,500 mg/kg chitosan in diets significantly increased the average daily feed intake, average daily gain, apparent utilization rate of crude fat and dry matter, and length weight of each intestine, significantly decreased percentage of abdominal fat of geese.while increasing the number of beneficial bacteria,The result of adding 500 mg/kg is more significant;but the groups supplemented with 1000 mg/kg?2000 mg/kg chitosan, significantly decreased the growth of geese.increases percentage of abdominal fat and the number of harmful bacteria in the intestine.Based on the results of this study,it is recommended that the use of chitosan in the production of geese is 500 mg/kg.
