ZOU Bing-wen's Agricultural Education Practice Analysis (1912-1928)

ZOU Bing-wen(1893-1985),a well-known agronomist and agricultural educator in modern China.In the early years of the Republic of China,he went to Cornell University in the United States for further study,in 1916 after obtaining a degree in agronomy,returned to teach,and then served as the director of agricultural specialty of Nanjing High Normal School,in 1921,the Nanjing Normal University was converted into Southeast University,ZOU Bing-wen still served as director of the Department of Agriculture.He combined Cornell University's theory of agricultural science with the reality of China at that time,and applied it to the course of running agriculture in Nanjing Normal University and Southeast University.It has made great contribution to promoting the cause of modern agricultural higher education in China.To explore the practice of agricultural education and the formation of agronomy thought,it mainly includes three stages.From 1912 to 1917,it was the budding and development period of ZOU Bing-wen 's agricultural thought,during which he studied in the Agricultural Science of Cornell University,studied modern agriculture in the West,and realized the importance of education for agricultural development.After returning home,having witnessed the decline of Chinese agriculture and the situation of agricultural education,he chose to devote himself to the cause of higher education in agriculture and explore new ways to revitalize agriculture.From 1917 to 1921,it was the period when ZOU Bing-wen became the director of agricultural specialty of Nanjing Higher Normal School,during which time he applied the school-running model of "teaching-research-promotion" of American agricultural higher education to the construction of the Southern High School agricultural science.Actively raise funds for running schools,widely employ teachers,and establish professional scientific research and academic groups.Reform the teaching mode and pay attention to the practical test link.From 1921 to 1928,he was the director of the Department of Agriculture at Southeast University,during which he began to pay attention to the positive role of agricultural higher education in society.He conducted agricultural research in various places and organized the establishment of the Jiangsu Province Insect Bureau.Actively cooperate with social organizations to study and study the state of agricultural education throughout the country and put forward targeted opinions.In the face of the call of the industrial community,he trained technical personnel for cotton cultivation industry,the promotion of good seeds and so on.It has strongly promoted the development of cotton planting in j Jiangsu province in modern times.ZOU Bing-wen was born and raised in the late Qing Dynasty,when the society was in transition.Therefore,whether the formation and development of his agricultural thought,or engaged in the practice of agricultural higher education,all imprint the times.Starting from reality,he chose to devote himself to the cause of higher education in agriculture,to reform,to improve the quality of teaching and scientific research in agricultural science,and to give full play to the social effects of agricultural science.To a certain extent,it has helped and learned from the development of agricultural higher education in Jiangsu Province and even the whole country.ZOU Bing-wen was born and raised in the late Qing Dynasty,when the society was in transition.Therefore,whether the formation and development of his agricultural thought,or engaged in the practice of agricultural higher education,all imprint the times.Starting from reality,he chose to devote himself to the cause of higher education in agriculture,to reform,to improve the quality of teaching and scientific research in agricultural science,and to give full play to the social effects of agricultural science.To a certain extent,it has helped and learned from the development of agricultural higher education in Jiangsu Province and even the whole country.
