BackgroundBenign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)is a frequently-occurring disease in elderly men.The cause of the disease is not fully understood.Recent studies have shown that metabolic syndrome(MS)may contribute to the development and progression of BPH.If there is a large amount of theoretical data to elucidate the association between metabolic syndrome and BPH,then we can reduce the incidence of BPH by intervening in certain metabolic factors of MS as early as possible.ObjectiveThe research is mainly to study the correlation between MS and BPH,to explore the influence of the analysis of the potential risk factors in the development of BPH disease,so as to provide data support for the clinical treatment of BPH.MethodsAccording to BPH and MS criteria, analysis 155 patients with BPH retrospectively from September 2015 to September 2017 attending the urology department of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Xinxiang Medical College.A total of 155 elderly B PH were divided into two groups. They wre divided into simple BPH group and BP H combined MS group.BPH with Metabolic syndrome(n=80)and simple BPH(n=75),their age, smoking history, drinking history, height, weight, body mass index(BMI),blood pressure, fasting blood glucose(FPG)level and LDL-C were recorded detailedly.Doppler ultrasound was used to detect the volume of the prostate(PV).The IPS S table was used to analyze the severity of the lower urinary tract. The differences of the metabolic and BPH in-dex between two groups were compared.By multiple linear regression, the effects and correlation of PV,IPSS with various components of MS were analyzed. We think that “P<0.05” has a statistically difference.Results(1)The differences in age, body weight, body mass index,low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and fasting blood glucose between the BPH group and the BPH group were statistically significant(P<0.01).The clinical indicators of BPH were evaluated. The differences of IPSS and PV between two groups were also statistically significant(P<0.01).(2)Multiple linear regression analysis showed that PV and IPSS were positively correlated with age, body mass index, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, systolic blood pressure and fasting blood glucose(P<0.05).But there is no correlation between diastolic blood pressure and PV and IPSS.Consequently(P>0.05),most metabolic syndrome components(except diastolic blood pressure)contribute to the development and progression of BPH.ConclusionThis study analyzed the relationship between MS components and clinical progression indicators for the evaluation of benign prostatic hyperplasia. We found that the differences of IPSS and PV between two groups were significant, meanwhile,PV and IPSS were positively correlated with most metabolic syndrome components. So we think that MS components can promote the development of BPH.
