Objection:To observe the short-term effect,long-term effect and safety of quadruple therapy on epigastric pain syndrome(EPS)with Helicobacter pylori(Hp)infection.Methods:154 cases of EPS with Hp infection were randomly divided into Group A(65cases)treated with quadruple therapy of combination with Chinese medicine and western medicine and Group B(64cases)treated with quadruple therapy of western medicine. The treatment lasted 14days.The symptom scores before the treatment, end of the treatment,30days and 90 days after the treatment as well as the rate of HP infection in 30 days after the treatment and adverse effects of the medication were evaluated and compared.Statistic software SPSS 17.0 was applied in the study.Result:(1)The Hp eradication rate in Group A was 89.2%and 89.1%in Group B,showing no significant differences between the two groups(P>0.05).(2)The single symptom scores and total symptom scores in the end of the treatment,30days and 90 days after the treatment were less than those before the treatment(P<0.01)both in Group A and B.(3)The single symptom scores of epigastric pain and epigastric burning and total symptom scores in the end of the treatment,30days and 90 days after the treatment in Group A were respectively less than those in Group B(P<0.01).(4)There were 13 cases of patients got clinical cure(20.0%),14 cases Marked effectiveness(21.5%),23 cases effectiveness(35.4%)and 15 cases failure(23.1%)in Group A.And there were 2 cases of patients got clinical cure(3.1%),4 cases Marked effectiveness(6.3%),26 cases effectiveness(40.6%)and 32 cases failure(50.0%)in Group B.It shows a significant difference between Group A and B(P<0.01).The rate of total effectiveness in Group A(76.9%)was higher than which in Group B(50%)(P<0.01).(5)The most syndrome distribution among all selected 154 cases of patients is the spleen stomach damp heat syndrome(105 cases/68.18%).Followed by the syndrome of incoordination between liver and stomach(25 cases/16.23%)?syndrome of spleen-deficiency and Qi stagnation(13 cases/8.44%)?cold-heat complicated syndrome.(7 cases/4.55%)?syndrome of deficient cold of spleen and stomach(4 cases/2.60%).Conclusions:(1)The quadruple therapy of combination with Chinese medicine and Western medicine is effective on epigastric pain syndrome(EPS)with Helicobacter pylori(Hp)infection. It has a similar effect on the Hp eradication with quadruple therapy of western medicine. The short-term and long-term effect on relief of symptom is prior to which of quadruple therapy of western medicine. Also it has little adverse effects and better treatment compliance.(2)The prescription based on Coptis chinensis 3g,Wu Zhuyu 3g Concha arcae 30g,Cuttlebone 15g with syndrome differentiation and treatment administration could be substituted for the proton pump inhibitor for epigastric pain syndrome(EPS)with Helicobacter pylori(Hp)infection.(3)The main traditional Chinese medicine syndrome of EPS with Hp infection is Spleen stomach damp heat syndrome(68.18%)in Wenzhou.
