Under the guidance of Information Theory, taking the hit documentary A Bite of China run on CCTV9 as a case study, based on the objective description and analysis of the collected data, this thesis explores the process and strategies of documentary dubbing translation combining with the characteristics of dubbing translation.By applying Information theory to translation study, documentary dubbing translation, which is offered a new cross-disciplinary perspective,a more comprehensive, scientific, and systematic theoretical structure, has broke through the limit that is put under linguistic level. The thesis is expected to offer some hints to dubbing translation of this kind and help to export more excellent documentary so as to spread Chinese food culture.Furthermore,it can enrich and enlarge the study of Information Theory. In the process of information transmission, only if the communication load fits the channel capacity of the receptor, the amount of information carried in a message is the largest and the effect of information transmission is the best, and vice versus.Information transmission, however,is not always smooth. It is invariably distorted by various factors both from and outside the system. In this thesis, these factors fall into two categories, text factor and non-text factors.Text factor refers to the redundancy of the source language commentary in the documentary.Redundancy, which is insufficient or over-loaded,can influence the effect of information transmission.Redundancy, therefore,in information transmission should be moderate.Non-text factor mainly involves media, the channel capacity of the target language audience, and etc.which disturb information transmission."Three principles" which are accuracy, acceptability, and synchronization and "three techniques" which are omission, addition, and rewriting used to adjust to redundancy imbalance of the commentary are explored in documentary dubbing translation on the basis of analyzing the influential factors in the thesis. And thus making the communication load fits the channel capacity of the target language audience and reaches the communication and share of information.
