With the arrival of knowledge economy,the world economic and trade exchanges is becoming more and more frequently.At the same time,many foreign companies and multinational corporations have been attracted to China and a part of the enterprises in our country have been discovered in the world.In this process,many college graduates,especially the higher vocational college graduates for these enterprises will get more chances to communicate with foreigners.As one of the most widely used languages all over the world,English is no doubt a necessary skill the higher vocational college graduates must master,so it is important for their development to learn English well.Because of the deviation of school-running ideas,the lack of the campus academic atmosphere,the wrong learning attitude of students,the misunderstanding of English of students,the insufficient attention of the parents and the teaching style of teachers,etc.However,the current situation of English education in higher vocational colleges is not optimistic.This paper takes higher vocational students in Gansu Institute of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering as the research object.Through questionnaire survey of 164 students in grade 2015 and interviews with six students and three English teachers in this institute,tries to understand the current situation of English learning initiative of the higher vocational students,and uses the Excel to analyze the questionnaire data.By doing this,it is concluded that higher vocational institute students' English learning initiative is generally not high,and then carries on the analysis from the students,teachers and the surrounding environment to find out the reasons of influencing the English learning initiative of students,and puts forward relevant countermeasures and Suggestions.The main purpose of this paper is to change the status quo that English learning initiative of higher vocational students is not high,to arouse their interest in learning English,to improve their English learning enthusiasm through study,and provide a basis and reference for teachers to carry out teaching more smoothly.
