A Report On C-E Translation Of Tour Commentary Of Kangxian County (Excerpts)

Along with the economic globalization,geographic distance is no longer the main factor that impedes communications between different countries which have become unprecedented frequent today.For people all around the world,travel becomes a direct and the fastest way to know a foreign country in a limited period.China is attracting an increasing numbers of foreign tourists for its vast territory,time-honored history,splendid traditional culture and abundant natural resources.As a kind of foreign publicity material,tourist publicity material plays an important role in the development of tourism industry.Based on the C-E translation of Tour Commentary of Kangxian County(excerpts),this report introduces and concludes the translation project.The source text consists of two parts,tour commentary of scenic spots and tour guide.Because of the cultural diversity,tourism texts often contain great amount of local cultural customs and information,which is a big obstacle in cross-cultural communications.Therefore,the translation of tourism texts should serve to bridge the cultural gap between foreign tourists and local tourist destinations.By following the guidance of “Skopos Theory” and “tourist-centered” principle and taking cultural difference and acceptance degree of target audience into consideration,the author adopted a combination strategy of foreignization and domestication in translating Tour Commentary of Kangxian County.This report is divided into five parts.The first part mainly introduces the background and the significance of the translation project.The second part is the task description,including the contents of the task,source text type analysis and the requirements of the entrusting party.The translation process is elaborated in the third part which contains investigation of background information,selection of translation theories and strategies,glossary preparation and translation quality control.The fourth part is the case study in which difficulties the author encountered during translation process are analyzed and some translation methods are proposed to deal with the difficulties.The last part is the conclusion of the report,describing limitations of this report,the experiences gained in the translation and suggestions to others.
