Report On English-Chinese Translation Of The Technical Text Sonar And Underwater Acoustics

With the rapid development of science and technology and the increasing international communication,technical texts are pervasive in all aspects of our life and the translation of these texts is in great demand.Technical texts contain a large amount of information that is practical and specialized.It can help people get a better understanding of a certain field.Therefore,a high translation quality is essential to have a direct effect on readers' understanding of the text.Based on the E-C translation of Sonar and Underwater Acoustics,this report discusses E-C translation strategies of technical texts through analysis on the lexical and syntactical levels.On the lexical level,this report discusses strategies for the translation of technical terms and nominalized structures,where literal translation can be applied in the former and inversion in the latter.On the syntactical level,it discusses the translation strategies for passive sentences,postpositive attributes,and long and difficult sentences.In terms of sentence translation,the translator can adopt linear translation,adverse translation and division method in order to produce fluent Chinese sentences.Based on the given examples,this report aims to provide different strategies in various contexts,in hope of providing some valuable reference in technical text translation.
