A Report On CE-Translation Of Radiation Technology And Advanced Materials

Nowadays,science and technology are developing by leaps and bounds,hence a tremendous amount of literature on science and technology(LST).Similarly,there is an increasing amount of translated literature of the same type.However,there ar e few CE translations on physics and chemistry.Clearly,this report on the C-E translation of Radiation Technology and Advanced Materials is of much practical value.First,the report states the background of the selection of the project,overviews relevant literature,and mentions the significance of this research.As the text is an informative one,the author chooses Communicative Translation and Scopos Theory as her guide to translation.Next,the report describes the linguistic features of the text,including features of diction,sentences and text,and the three translation stages,namely,the pre-translation phase,the stage of comprehension and reproduction,and the phase of revising and improving the version.Then the thesis discusses how technical terms and archaic words are rendered into English,before it proves the feasibility of applying such techniques as conversion of the voices,addition,omission,division and combination,etc.to translation of passive sentences and involved sentences.Notably,the author translates some clauses in the original by using concise and idiomatic elements in the target language such as past participle phrases,nominalized elements,appositive phrases and prepositional phrases introduced by with,so that the translated sentences are well organized and logically clear.Moreover,the author makes special effort to add such adhesive devices as coordinators and subordinators and adverbial conjunctives to the version,for she knows that English is characterized by hypotaxis.Meanwhile,guided by Communicative Translation and Scopos Theory,the author always considers the readers' needs and does her best to render the version standard,smooth and easily understandable.The report aims at enlightening translators of LST so that they may improve their translation of LST.
