With the development of China’s science and technology and the deepening of its opening up, equipment made in China are purchased by more and more countries with relevant technology exported. Therefore, a lot of foreign aid training projects are initiated, which leads to the need for interpreting talents with relevant skills and experience. Usually, in those projects, interpreters do not only do consecutive interpreting in class. They also have to accompany foreign trainees through their stay in China and try to bring the project to a success. Because of such characteristic, studying those interpreting tasks can help interpreters better adapt to similar situations, thus, can promote the development of China’s foreign aid training. In this thesis, such an interpreting task which the author have accomplished in China Electronics Technology Group Corporation 54th Research Institute (CETC54) is analyzed from the perspective of an interpreter. First, a brief introduction about the project is given. Then, the author’s pre-interpreting preparations are listed. Next, after introducing the translation theories used by the author in this task, namely, Daniel Gile’s Comprehension Equation and the Skopos Theory, the author’s effort of adopting those theories in solving problems including the poor English pronunciation of the foreign trainees, the author’s lack of relevant knowledge and vocabulary, the cultural and religious gaps between Chinese and the foreign trainees and the tricky situations when conversations between the trainers and trainees should not be interpreted directly is described in detail with examples given. Then, the result of this interpreting task is evaluated from the perspectives of both the client and the author himself. Finally, this thesis summarized the meaning and value of the project, the problems and solutions, some thoughts on the remaining problems and the future outlook.
