A Project Report On The Translation Of Speeches At The 12^th Round Table Meeting Of The Heads Of Art Schools And Institutes Between China And ASEAN

The subject of this translation project is a C-E translation project of the speeches at the 12th round table meeting of the heads of art schools and institutes between China and ASEAN.This round table meeting is to promote the communication and cooperation among art schools and institutes between China and ASEAN,promote the cultivation of art talents as well as the inheritance and development of traditional art.These speeches were analyzed and translated by the author based on the Tytler’s three principles of translation.By applying Tytler’s three principles of translation and analyzing the characteristics of speech,this translation project report analyzed the source texts through three aspects which are art terminology,special sentence patterns in speech and rhetoric expressions and concluded related translation methods and strategies.On the aspect of translating art terminology,the selection and translation of words must be paid attention to.Do not always use the literal translation.Pay attention to the situation of the original texts,and the target texts should faithfully convey the meaning of the original texts.When translating special sentence pattern in speech,the translator should know how to change the sentence structure and add or omit words to translate long and difficult sentences,and the target sentences should be as fluent as the original sentences.On the aspects of translating rhetoric expressions,the taste of original texts must be kept,and the target text must be accurate and faithful as well as objective and logical.Besides,since the original texts are Chinese speeches,when doing the translation,the translator should pay attention to the fluency of the speech and the words with Chinese characteristics,learn about the cultural background of these words.At last,this translation report summarizes the corresponding translation methods and experiences so that other translators can learn from it.
