This translation project is a sub-project of the E-C translation project which is accepted from Shanghai 99 Readers' Culture Co,Ltd.The author's supervisor is the director of this project. As a member of the project team, the author undertakes the translation of Chapter Four and Chapter Five of The Spectator Bird. This is the first time that this novel is introduced in China. This translation report includes five chapters.Chapter One introduces this translation project Chapter Two describes translation preparation.Chapter Three gives an account of translation process.Chapter Four discusses translation problems and their solutions in light of eco-translatology.Chapter Five summarizes major findings and limitations of this report and proposes some suggestions for further translation practices. This report discusses the process of solving problems under the guidance of Eco-translatology.Under the guidance of "multi-dimensional transformations",this report analyzes the translation of four-character vocabulary and phrases, rhetorical devices, and terminology at linguistic level, discusses the methods of free translation, tive combination of literal translation and footnotes in dealing with the problems at cultural level, and mentions that the communicative functions of language are considered in translation. In order to "make up for the lacking elements",footnotes are mainly used in constructing target text. The author chooses to "lean on the Source-text Ecology or the Target-text Ecology" according to the translational eco-environment.It is found that Eco-translatology is a feasible theory to guide translation practice. It is sincerely hoped that this translated version can be accepted by Chinese readers and help them hold more optimistic attitudes towards marriage, life and death, and reflect more about the relationship between human and nature. It is also expected that readers can know more about American and Denmark culture in this Gothic horror story.
