Chinese culture is extensive and profound with a long history. In recent years, with the continuous promotion of China's international image and influence,it is imperative to make traditional Chinese culture known abroad and let the world have a comprehensive understanding of China through the exchange of Chinese and foreign cultures.Tao Te Ching is one of the greatest masterpieces in Chinese history which has profound influence on Chinese culture.According to statistics from UNESCO,ranking only second to the Bible,Tao Te Ching is the most translated cultural classics in the world. Thus, people can see that the English translation of Tao Te Ching is of great importance to the spread of Chinese culture. The author selected Bai Yansong?s speech — Talking About Tao Te Ching as the object of this simulated interpreting practice and conducted a C-E simultaneous interpreting practice. On the basis of all this, the author wrote this practice report. In this speech,Bai Yansong conveys the knowledge of Tao Te Ching with witty language.Through this speech, the audience can not only appreciate the grace of traditional Chinese culture through the cultural connotation of Tao Te Ching, but actively ponder over it and be more optimistic about the future. This practice report consists of three parts. The first part introduces the background, the purpose,as well as the significance of the task. The second part describes the entire process of interpreting, including the introduction of the pre-interpreting preparations, covering the collection of relevant information, terminology build-up and selection of guiding theory, the formal interpreting process and the post-task evaluation process. The third part,as the core of this practice report, mainly focuses on difficulties encountered by the author in the simulated practice and proposes some coping strategies. The author discusses some difficulties such as the existence of a large amount of redundant information in the speech, difficulties brought by syntactic differences between Chinese and English,as well as the handling of metaphors.Countermeasures such as omission strategy, compression strategy, amplification and free translation are proposed in this thesis. The author hopes that this simulated practice can provide reference for future interpretation learning and practice so as to improve the author's interpretation.
