The rapid development of globalization and China's foreign trade has resulted in significant increase of translation that requires to be completed over a shorter period of time, which has brought great challenges to the translation industry.Meanwhile,computer-aided translation and machine translation has been applied widely, which has innovated the traditional translation process and greatly improved the efficiency of translation. As a report on the translation of a text on science and technology, this paper attempts to translate the operation manual of Alphatronic2000PCS,a propulsion control system at the ship of DMU called Yukun, with the help of a translation computer program.Firstly,it makes a distinction between machine translation and computer-aided translation. The former one directly transforms one language into another language by means of computer neural network without any manual intervention. The latter one can match similar or identical sentences by searching the translation memory,so as to save time for the translation of repeated sentences.Secondly, applying termbase and translation memory, the two powerful functions of computer-aided translation, and equipped with Baidu translate plug-in,this paper adopts CAT+MT+PE translation mode and produces machine translation result and translation memory matching result. However,it is not wise to completely depend on machine translation result due to its limitations. This paper also introduces the error types of machine translation and analyzes the cases in the aspect of vocabulary and sentence structures.Based on this analysis, translators could conduct the post editing via manually correcting the errors of translation machine,in order to present the translation with high quality.
