This thesis is a translation project report on chapter one to three of Stamped From The Beginning: The Definite History of Racist Ideas in America.Written by Ibram X.Kendi,an America professor, this book is mainly about the origin and the development of the history of racist ideas in America through the lives story of five historical figures.Based on the theory of functional equivalence raised by Nida, the report tries to analyze the strategies in translating the historical text from the lexical level and syntactic level. As for the lexical level, the paper studies the translation of the proper nouns from the literal translation, transliteration;as for the syntactic level, the paper studies division and amplification as well as how to deal with the passive sentences to achieve the functional equivalence. The research consists of two parts: translation practice and translation project report. The translation project report is composed of four parts. The first part is the introduction of the translation project, including the introduction of the background of the translation project, the introduction of the author and the original text as well as the purposes of the translation project. The second part is the preparation and the process of the translation project. The third part which is the most important part in the thesis is the case analysis combined with the theory of functional equivalence. The fourth part is the summary of the translation project in which translator summarizes the problems left and some inspiration.
