This interpreting report is based on a consecutive interpreting of the BBC documentary Food on the Brain.The documentary,which is narrated in English without subtitles,and no Chinese translation version.This interpreting task is a lecture on health organized by the Huaihe Road Community for residents to explain the relationship between food and health and promote healthy eating habits.This thesis focuses on the analysis of the key points and difficulties in the interpreting practice and discusses the corresponding interpreting strategies and skills.This thesis is made up of four chapters.Chapter One gives an overall introduction of the interpreting task which includes the source and the background information of the interpreting practice and its significance.Chapter Two is the description of the interpreting process which describes the process before the task,during the task and after the task.This chapter discusses how to make full preparation before interpreting,including the preparation of vocabulary,interpreting theory,plans and relevant knowledge.In addition,it also includes how to deal with emergencies in the process of interpreting and further evaluates the content and language after the task.Chapter Three is the case analysis of the difficulties during the interpreting process.The author chooses some typical cases,under the guidance of interpretive theory,to analyze how to deal with the speaker's speed and accent and some cultural barriers.The author uses the appropriate interpreting methods and strategies,such as additions,omission,free translation,linear translation and sentences restriction to deal with the difficulties in the process of interpreting to make sure the communication goes smoothly.Chapter Four is a brief summary of this thesis which lists the major findings and limitations of the study,as well as the inspiration for future study.Finally,the author hopes that this practice report can provide some help and reference for other interpreters.
