A Report On Translation Of The Excerpts From Hunan University Student Handbook In The Light Of Text Typology Theory

In recent years,as China takes opening up education as its strategy of education reform and development,great attention has been paid to the translation of campus regulations.In the process of translation,the top priority of a translator is to analyze text function of the original text,determine its text type,choose appropriate translation strategies,and accomplish the translation which bears accurate information,consistent style and functions compared with the original text.This report is a C-E translation report with its source texts being three important campus regulations excerpted from Hunan University Student Handbook,that is,Measures of Hunan University for Handling Students Disciplinary Violations,Administrative Measures of Hunan University for Handling Students' Complaints and Measures of Hunan University for Handling Disciplinary Violation in Examinations.These three important campus regulations of Hunan University aim to standardize students' behaviors and handle students' disciplinary violations effectively.In the light of Newmark's Text Typology Theory,the author of the report explores the translation methods of campus regulations based on the translation practice of the above-mentioned three Measures.In this report,the author analyzes the language features of the source texts and summarizes some useful translation methods such as literal translation plus annotation,amplification,omission,conversion at the lexical level and addition,conversion and reconstruction at the syntactic level.The research shows that in order to translate texts accurately concerned with campus regulations,the translator should not only have a better and correct understanding of law-related knowledge,but also apply proper translation theory to provide helpful guidance and adapt the target text by using appropriate translation methods so as to meet the target readers' requirements.
