In recent years,with the development of relations between Cameroon and China,more and more Cameroonian students are learning Chinese.The purpose of this article is to investigate possible confusion and misunderstandings in the acquisition of the modal particle“A(?)”,“BA(?)”,“MA(?)”,“NE(?)”by Cameroun's French speaking Chinese leaners,describe the acquisition errors causes and put forward specific teaching suggestions.For the purpose of this study,a survey was conducted on 44 students from the Normal University of Maroua and the University of Maroua majoring in Chinese language and literature,2200 language biased materials were collected through questionnaires and were carefully analyzed.The analysis was conducted from different angles taking into account the position of the modal particle in the sentence(in the middle or at the end of the sentence)and the type of the sentence(interrogative sentence,fixed sentence pattern).This paper focuses on the situation in which Cameroonian students have confusion and misunderstanding when they are acquainted with “A(?)”,“BA(?)”,“MA(?)”,“NE(?)”.The survey results show that Cameroon's Chinese learners have best mastered “MA(?)”,but they often overuse it at the end of interrogative sentences;“A(?)” is the least well mastered modal particle among the four,Students often confuse “A(?)” and “BA(?)”.In the declarative sentence Cameroonian students should avoid the tendency to use “NE(?)”;“NE ?” and “BA ?” are often prone to confusion.The influence of mother tongue,misleading in teachings,and some problems in the textbooks are the main reasons that lead to confusion of the chinese modal particle by Cameroon's Chinese learners.At the same time,this article also analyses the situation of Cameroon's local teachers who teach Chinese modal particles “A(?)”,“BA(?)”,“MA(?)”,“NE(?)” and combines the author's own learning experience to propose teaching suggestions.This article believes that teachers in Cameroon should pay attention to the usage of " A(?)" and " BA(?)",emphasize the teaching of " A(?)" used in the middle of the sentence and in fixed sentence patterns,eliminate the tendency to use “NE(?)” and help students to more accurately grasp the usage of Chinese modal particle in different type of interrogative sentences.
