With the growth of China's comprehensive national strength and global influence, the spread of Chinese culture is becoming a trend. As a result, this attracts more and more foreign tourists to China. In particular, museums are regarded favorably by international visitors given China's profound history and culture.Mianyang is a famous city with unique history and culture in Sichuan Province. The Mianyang Museum offers visitors highlights of great changes from the past 20,000 years and cultural relics mainly from the Han dynasty, which are curated in six exhibition halls: the Historical and Cultural Exhibition Hall,Natural Exhibition Hall,Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall,Money Tree Exhibition Hall,Han Horse Exhibition Hall and the Cliff Tomb Exhibition Hall.In March,2018,Ms.Cheryl Selby, mayor of the City of Olympia led a delegation to visit Mianyang Museum. This meant that interpretation services were required.Three volunteers including the author were recruited to provide the service. This report examines the interpretation practice of volunteers during the visit. It mainly includes the narration work and consecutive interpretation process for the mayor ' s trip.By combining experiences and reflections of several other volunteers working at the Mianyang Museum, the author gave resolutions to problems that occurred in cross-cultural communication, such as cultural default, pragmatic transfer and lexical vacancy.Interpreting techniques including domestication and foreignization, supplementation and omission as well as restructuring were used for better information transmission.Guided by the interpretive theory, the author analysed some difficulties and unexpected happenings.Aiming at the coexistence of colloquial and formal language in the narration, analysis was made by the author. After assessment from the museum, peers and the interpreter herself, relevant reflections and conclusions have been made by the author,in the hope of giving helpful ideas for future interpreting practices and research.
