A Report On The Translation Of Brown Real Estate Purchase Agreement And Escrow Instructions

This report illustrates the translation of real estate contract text under the guidance of long-sentences division.The source text is Brown Real Estate Purchase Agreement and Escrow Instructions(16339 words).This report analyzes from ARTICLE 2 to ARTICLE 10 of the agreement,7060 words in total.The excerpt chapters belong to typical contract text and there are lots of long sentences with strong preciseness,which is one of the main features of this kind of text.Therefore,how to deal with these long sentences is a key in translation.This report fully analyzes the text and illustrates the translation process through five parts,including introduction,translation project description,pre-translation analysis and preparation,case analysis and summary.The division methods of long sentences are illustrated in pre-translation process.The case analysis is the core part of this report.In this part,four translation methods are analyzed under the guidance of long-sentences division,including linear translation,inverse translation,splitting translation and comprehensive translation.For the long sentences with same expression order in English and Chinese,the linear translation is adopted;For reverse expression order,the inverse translation is adopted;For those long sentences which are complete inconsonance in expression order and logic between English and Chinese,the splitting translation is adopted;in addition,there are lots of complicated sentences in the sources text and their translation involves linear translation,inverse translation and splitting translation,which will adopt the comprehensive translation.The understanding of language style of contract text and the division methods of long and difficult sentences are deepened through this translation practice.There still are some disadvantages in this report,but the methods summarized in this report are supposed to be helpful for future real estate contract translation.
