Analysis Of Translation Methods Of Long And Difficult Sentences In Military English From The Perspective Of Relevance Translation Theory

With the rapid development of science and technology,various new military tactics are constantly springing up.In order to further strengthen the information construction of our armed forces,it is necessary to learn from the latest foreign advanced experience and research results in military field.Therefore,there has been an increasing domestic demand for English documents in related fields,which has brought great challenges to the translation of English documents in military field.Because military English is logical and precise,a large number of long and difficult English sentences with complex grammatical structures are always used in military English.And it is advisable to clarify the logical representation of the original sentences,sort out the sentence structures of the original text and then adopt effective methods to carry out the Chinese translation practice.In view of this,from the perspective of the relevance theory of translation,this report aims to elucidate the cognitive process of translation through the ostensive-inferential verbal communicating process,in which the translators need to accurately deduce the logical relationship of English sentences and choose appropriate methods to clarify the logical representation of the sentences.In order to facilitate the reasoning process,the long and difficult English sentences in the text are divided into two categories based on the distinctive features of military English and are analyzed as concrete examples.Thus,the author summarizes the translation methods such as linear translation,inversion,division,splitting,amplification and restructuring aiming to successfully convey the logical information of the original sentences.It is hoped that this research can provide useful guidance and reference for translation practice and translation research of military English.
