A Translation Report Of The Attributive Clause Under The Guidance Of Skopos Theory Taking Carrie And Me As An Example

Part One of Carrie and Me is selected as this translation task.In Part One,there are more than 100 sentences describing the places and the persons.Among them,nearly 40% is the attributive clause.They are different in length and the style of them is humorous and vivid.Moreover,the place of the attributive clause is different in Chinese and English.The function of this clause is flexible in English.Therefore,it is difficult to translate,which becomes the main characteristic of this translation task.In China,there are a few scholars studying the translation of the attributive clause.Meanwhile,there are a few translation strategies about translating the attributive clause.Even though some scholars put up some strategies,these can't deal with all kinds of attributive clauses.Therefore,the translation methods of the attributive clause are studied in this report.However,it is not easy to translate these clauses properly and accurately.At the same time,it is difficult to make the target text in line with Chinese reading habits.In order to solve this problem,the Skopos Theory is selected as the guidance theory after studying a lot of documents.This theory includes three rules: Skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule.The translator aims to make the target text loyal to the source text.The translation should meet a criterion of intra-textual coherence,which means the target text should be adaptable and readable.Under the guidance of the three rules,there are four translation strategies concluded after analyzing the attributive clauses in source text.They are preposition method,juxtaposition method,fusion method and conversion method respectively.These four strategies may help other translators solve various problems of translating the attributive clauses.The translation of such clause can express the meaning of the source text clearly and accurately.In the process of translating,many new translation strategies and methods are got.At the same time,a deeper understanding of the Skopos Theory makes a solid foundation for translating after reading a lot of books.
