Student preparation for class which is commonly regarded as the primary step of teaching and learning is in trouble as it frequently hasn't been done by students.Thus it causes bad effects of instruction and learning which is a problem both of Chinese and oversea teachers.Things even worse that its existence is being threatened by movement of switch of class teaching model in China,especially the appearance of PAD(Presentation Assimilation Discussion)Model,who boasts that it is not needed because teacher's presentation must come first before learning.Therefore,there has to be a rediscovery of it and changes must be made right now.This dissertation comes as a try.In this dissertation,by using documentary method,inductive method and speculative method,we give an introduction of traditional basic operations of student preparation for class both of China and outside China.And then we reform it greatly and comprehensively.This article contains four parts: In introduction,research reasons,theory backgrounds of student preparation for class as well as methodology of research are illustrated.Then,we introduce student preparation for class inside and outside China,about their basic operations,their similarities,and also their problems remain to be solved which is the startpoint of this research.In the coming part,we establish a system of basic operations.And in the final part,we point out problems of current“preparation for class+classroom implement” teaching models and propose a new one which consists of several idealized principles.What are the new basic operations? We would like to introduce it in brief: To foster learner autonomy,student preparation for class is a guided study that use textbook as main learning resource and done alone or in a cooperative manner,without artificial limitations of space and time.The current teaching models have some problems.Instruction and learning has been separated into the part of instruction and the part of learning and the former shouldn't have been much important than the later.What's more the status of student preparation for class is lower than instruction and learning in classroom.Hence,we propose a new approach which link traditional instruction and learning before class,in class and after class,by adjusting teacher's instructional preparation purpose from lesson instruction in classroom to learning guidance.As a consequence,traditional preparation for class process becomes formal instruction and learning process,which can start from reviewing of what has learnt before and then go ahead to new course.Following course commonly base on former course.We put forward several principles of the new approach.These principles are listed out as follow:1.It is not only student-centered,but also teacher-centered;2.thus has two subjects,student and teacher,both of them can launch educational activities;3.aims at students' autonomy but finally benefit both students and teachers;4.educational contents should relate to teacher and student,combine with their life experience,knowledge of teaching or learning subjects and what they already learned.Every piece of resource they can access can be obtained and applied,but in a legal and moral way;5.no more artificial limitation of educational space and time;6.every one has his/her right to choose.
