Based on Newmark's Text Typology Theory, this translation report analyzes the translation of English long sentences in meteorological science and technology texts with the examples taken from the fifth and sixth chapters of Climate,Energy and Water, and discusses the specific translation methods used in the translation of long sentences in meteorological science and technology text.Newmark roughly divides texts into three categories, namely, expressive text, informative text and vocative text.On this basis,Newmark proposed two translation strategies:"semantic translation"and "communicative translation".Newmark believes that for different texts different translation strategies should be adopted. The semantic translation strategy is based on the original form and original intention of the original author, while the communicative translation strategy focuses on conveying information on the basis of the language, culture and pragmatic ways of the target language. The structure of long sentences is complex and the modified structure is varied. It is these factors that make the translation of long sentences a difficult point in the translation task.According to the Text Typology Theory of Newmark and the characteristics of selected meteorological science and technology text, the translator concludes that the source text is an informative text.Thenthe translator flexibly chooses different translation methods in the process of translation of long sentences, including sequencing, cutting, embedding, recasting and synthesizing. At the same time, through the reflection and summary of the translation practice, this report aims to summarize the characteristics of meteorological technology texts and the translation skills of long sentences. It provides a reference for other translators to improve the quality of the translation of meteorological science and technology texts. The translation report is divided into six chapters. The first chapter is the description of the translation task;it mainly introduces the background of the study, the original text, the significance of the research and the structure of the report. The second chapter is about the process of translation task, which includes preparations before translation, initial translation and post-translation proofreading. The translation preparations include the understanding of the stylistic features of EST,the requirements of EST translation and related terminology translation. The third chapter is the theoretical framework;the main content of this chapter is the introduction of Text Typology Theory and Newmark's translation strategies. The fourth chapter is the introduction to long sentences, which mainly includes the definition, characteristics and classification of long sentences. The fifth chapter is the case analysis, and five methods of translating long sentences under the guidance of the Text Typology Theory are put forward. The sixth chapter is the conclusion of this report,in which the translator summarizes the process of translationand points out the major findings and limitations of the translation.
