Translation Strategies For Passive Sentences In Meteorological Sci-Tech Text From The Perspective Of Text Typology

This translation material is selected from the first four chapters of Weather & Climate Services For The Energy Industry,compiled and edited by Alberto Troccoli to help readers grasp the the application of meteorological information in the energy industry quickly,and then to carry out innovative research on this basis.In this report,according to the content and type of the text,the translator focused on the passive sentences that are used frequently and selected the text typology theory that is more suitable as theoretical guidance,to discuss and summarize the translation strategies for the passive sentences comprehensively.In the report,the translator translated passive sentences in English into active sentences in Chinese,passive sentences in Chinese and non-subject sentences in Chinese.If the structure of a passive sentence was“recipient+verb+by+agent”,the translator would translate the passive sentence into an active sentence in Chinese,which turned the original subject into object.Besides,the passive sentence can be translated into the passive sentence in Chinese with the word of passive meaning such as“??????”.If there was no obvious agent or no mention of the agent in a passive sentence,the translator could keep the original subject,translating into an active sentence in Chinese,or could translate it into an active sentence in Chinese with a general referential subject.If a passive sentence stressed on the passive action or state,it could be translated into a be-verb active sentence in Chinese,which denoted the meaning of judgment.If there was no obvious agent or there was only a prepositional phrase led by the word such as“by,in,on,for”as an adverbial in a passive sentence,the translator could translate it into a non-subject sentence in Chinese.This translation practice report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,which briefly summarizes the research background and research significance.The second chapter describes the translation project,which introduces the content and language features of the original text and the process of the translation.The third chapter summarizes the content and guiding significance of text typology theory,and briefly introduces the passive sentences.The fourth chapter is the case analysis,taking the texttypology theory as the research angle and combining typical cases,to carry on the analysis of the translation methods of passive sentences.The fifth chapter is a summary,which concludes the translator's experience in translation practice,and the limitations that still exist.
