A Report On The E-C Translation Of "DeepStack: Expert-level Artificial Intelligence In Heads-up No-limit Poker"

In recent years,science and technology have made a significant progress and globalization has been an irreversible force.Hence,the communication in science and technology among countries is increasingly vital,thus the translation of scientific texts is severely important.The translation practice report is based on a scientific paper named “Deep Stack: Expert-level Artificial Intelligence in Heads-up No-limit Poker” which introduces how Deep Stack works and presents its related theories in detail,and Deep Stack is a kind of artificial intelligence about Texas Hold'em poker.The source text is characterized by the professional knowledge,so the translator looked through many relevant materials before translation and chose Nida's functional equivalence theory as the guidance in view of the features of the source text.When translating,the translator found that some professional terms,passive voice and difficult sentences in the source text were uneasy to translate,and discourse cohesion was tough to deal with,which is because of the translator's rare knowledge in the field.After applying the functional equivalence theory,the translator solved above problems via using translation methods such as literal and liberal translation and some translation techniques like addition,omission,division,combination and so on.Then the lexical equivalence,syntactic equivalence,textual equivalence and stylistic equivalence are realized.According to the steps of the translation,the translator presents this translation practice report from before translation,while translating and after translation and makes an analysis on difficulties met in translation in detail.The translator briefly introduces the translation task from the the entrusting party's requirements and analysis on the source text firstly.Secondly,the concrete translation procedures are displayed.Thirdly,the translator describes the problems found in the translation and comes up the corresponding solutions.Finally,the translator makes a conclusion of the report and comes to reflection and experiences.This translation practice report is expected to give some suggestions to MTI students.
