A Report Of Interpreting On A Master Class Of The British Pianist Aaron Shorr

This thesis is a master class interpreting report conducted by the author of the 2017 China Lanzhou International Piano Festival.On the basis of the 2-hour master class interpreting practice of musician Aaron Shorr,the author analyzes various translation problems in the course of interpreting and probes into the methods and skills for addressing these problems.This practice report is mainly guided by Peter Newmark's communicative translation theory.Communicative translation focuses on the communicative effect and audience acceptance.In order to express important message in target language,interpreters shouldn't stick to positions of words,phrases and sentences.Besides,interpreting skills such as addition and omission should be used on the spot in the light of interpreting demands so that target audiences can receive message easily.This practice report mainly includes five parts.The author presents the interpreting task in the first part.The second part describes task background,aims,characteristics,difficulties,significance and the requirements of the entrusting party.The author elaborates the interpreting process,including pre-interpreting preparation work,interpreting process as well as evaluations.The pre-interpreting preparation work consists of glossary formulation,information about Professor Aaron Shorr,tools preparation,choice and analysis of parallel text and the guiding interpreting theories and methods.The fourth part is case analysis.The author analyzes successful interpreting experience,interpreting difficulties based on lexical,syntactic as well as cultural level.In addition,interpreting problems should be solved through addition and omission methods.In the concluding part,the author summarizes guiding significance by communicative translation,the importance of interpreting abilities as well as the major suggestions in the future interpreting practice.This practice report confirms the importance of preparatory work.The omission and misinterpreting can be better resolved by using the translation strategies of addition and omission.Professional ability and abundant energy are the important factors to ensure the success of interpretation for interpreters.
