The early Changzhou poetry genre is a group of Ci writers with distinct regional feature. They lived in the middle stage of Qing dynasty which was about to experience changes. The external environment brought dramatic changes to their state of mind. They regarded Qu Yuan as their bosom friend of another dynasty. They pursued the Qu Sao spirit by creating Ci works and carried forward the style of Qu Yuan.In terms of theoretical construction, they inherited the tradition of indignation and emotion expression by expressing thoughts on things, continued the tradition of Hreb and Beauty through Bi Xing sustenance, and carried forward the tradition of Fu through interpretation in the chapter-after-chapter style, thus establishing the theoretical principles of Changzhou school. The early Changzhou Ci poets also combined their theories with their creation practice. They applied the tradition of Qu Sao in their Ci creation practice and created works with special features by inheriting the subjects of Qu Sao,capturing the images of Qu Sao,and imitating the syntax of Qu Sao.Regardless of the different experiences and knowledge, the early Changzhou Ci poets have roughly the same Ci creation style. They sincerely upheld the new trend of advocating Ci poetry with concise languages but rich connotation, which is the direct successor of Qu Sao tradition.
