The poetry translation between Chinese and English has been remarked. As we all know,English and Chinese, come from different language families, are quite different from each other such as hypotaxis and parataxis. However,it is undeniable that translations between Chinese and English have existed for centuries and played a very important role in cross-cultural communications. However, whether a translation is effective is something that critics usually argue about. In the eye of monists, translations between these two languages are unreliable as they believe any form contains meaning, the transformation from one language to another can no doubt, results in meaning loss.In this way,any efforts made to produce a faithful translation can only be endlessly approaching to the ST,but it will never be it.Cognitive stylistics, arises in the end of twentieth century, adopts both linguistic method and cognitive method in the study of reading process. In other words, the analysis is comprised of top-down linguistic analysis and readers' response analysis. As for specific research methodology, this study will then draw some lights from cognitive stylistic analysis in the evaluation of poetry translation in China.Specifically, the study will firstly do the whole reading to the source from the perspective of image schema in Chapter Four;followed by that, translation texts will also be analyzed from the perspective of image schema and any deviation of them will be elaborated on its effects on readers in Chapter Five;finally, the evaluation of the translation will be made based on the readers' response analysis and number of transformation of image schema at the end of Chapter Five.General speaking, this study will take a parallel corpus as the analysis materials, which is comprised of one ancient Chinese poetry-Jiang Cheng Zi and four of its translations. It is fair enough to believe that translation evaluation based on criteria of readers' response will be far more easy-handled and trust-worthy.
