The middle school stage is a crucial period that everyone must go through during their lifetime.Interpersonal relationships of middle school students not only effect their academic performance and school life,but also influence the development of individual physical and mental health.This study mainly explored the impact of psychological abuse and self-esteem on interpersonal relationships of middle school students.The current study examined the effects of psychology abuse and self-esteem on interpersonal relationships.498 students from three middle schools in Changchun were surveyed using the Child Psychological Abuse Scale,the Interpersonal Comprehensive Scale and the Self-esteem Scale.Data was analyzed using independent sample T tests,analyses of variance with SPSS19.0.The mediating effect was tested,and results indicated that,1.The middle school students' interpersonal relationships differed in demographic variables.Birthplace effected the interpersonal relationships.Urban students' interpersonal relationships were higher than that of rural students.The nine grade students had the best interpersonal relationships,and the seven grade students had the most problems in their interpersonal relationships.The level of parental education effected individual relationships.As the parent's education level increased,the higher students scored on the interpersonal relationships.2.The middle school students' psychological abuse differed in demographic variables.The nine grade students had the lowest scores of psychological abuse,and the seven grade students suffered the most from psychological abuse.The level of mothers' education effected psychological abuse.The higher the mother's level of education,the less psychological abuse students suffered.3.The middle school students' self-esteem differed in demographic variables.Birthplace effected the level of self-esteem.Urban students' self-esteem was higher than that of rural students.The nine grade students had the highest self-esteem level,and the seven grade students had the lowest self-esteem level.The level of mothers' education effected students' self-esteem.The higher the mothers' education level,the higher students scored on self-esteem.4.Psychological abuse of middle school students had a negative effect on interpersonal relationships.The higher the frequency of psychological abuse experienced by an individual,the lower students scored on interpersonal relationships.5.Self-esteem partially mediated the relationship between psychological abuse and interpersonal relationships.
