In the exchange and integration of modern Chinese and Western music,Christian missionaries from the West are a force that cannot be ignored.In addition to their missionary work in China,they also introduced Western music culture.The works of Julia Brown Mateer's book "Chant Spiritual Enclosing Enlightened Music Grammar"and the work of the footwork textbook "Tune-book in Chinese notation" written by Mrs.Timothy Timothy have important status and value in the introduction and dissemination of western music theory and visual singing.This thesis takes" Chant Spiritual Enclosing Enlightened Music Grammar" and "Tune-book in Chinese notation " as the research objectand discusses the reference and enlightenment to contemporary teaching of sight-singing through the research on the concept,content,methods and other aspects of the teaching of the vocal music in these two teaching materials.In addition to the introduction and conclusion,this article has three chapters.The content of the introduction mainly relates to the reasons for selecting the topic,the analysis of research status at home and abroad,research methods,concept definition,and the theoretical basis of the research.The first chapter mainly consists of the background of the development of the music culture in the late Qing Dynasty and the missionaries' two parts:the promotion and development of the singer.The first part mainly outlines the general situation of the development of Western music in China during the late Qing Dynasty when the two textbooks of "Chant Spiritual Enclosing Enlightened Music Grammar" and " Tune-book in Chinese notation" were located.The second part focuses on a brief overview of the development of Christian music during this period.Western missionaries are making groundbreaking contributions in the context of this collision and integration of Chinese and Western music.The second chapter focuses on the analysis of the characteristics of "Chant Spiritual Enclosing Enlightened Music Grammar" and " Tune-book in Chinese notation " as the materials for viewing and singing.From the aspects of the structure,concept,teaching contents and methods of the two textbooks,the missionaries introduced the Chinese singers into experimental and creative changes.The third chapter mainly discusses the contemporary teaching enlightenment of "Chant Spiritual Enclosing Enlightened Music Grammar " and "Tune-book in Chinese notation".The two aspects of sight-singing teaching content and teaching methods are discussed in order.It provides reference and enlightenment for how the two textbooks can be used as a reference for today's singer education,and how to has great value to cultivate the music cultural diversity respectively and achieve the cultural prosperity universally between China and West.The conclusion is mainly about the summary of the whole article and the outlook.
