Practice Report On The General Warehouse Leasing Contract Translation

As the world economy embarks on an accelerated track,foreign trade and business dealings between various countries are becoming increasingly frequent,enormously boosting businessmen and enterprises to seek proper development opportunities amid the international market.In recent years,as China puts great emphasis on Chinese Dream and the rapid emerging of China's economy,more and more foreign companies come to China to explore development chances and try to occupy new market.Against such a background,transnational collaborations are becoming closer.To ensure the legitimacy and fairness of international economic exchanges,international business contracts rise at the proper times,playing a significant role in promoting successful transnational collaborations.Not only the rights entitled by countries and their responsibilities through cooperation are clearly defined in business contacts,but also issues that tend to give birth to misunderstandings and conflicts are illuminated in a very distinct way.Therefore,correct translation of business contracts holds great significance for successful economic cooperation.As a cross-language communicative activity,the translation of business contracts should not only be accurate but also present differences existing in cultures and comprehension between source text readers and the target text readers,thus to protect the legitimate rights of both parties.Accordingly,the selection of proper translation strategies and methods should be put on the key position during the translating of business contracts.Nevertheless,as for translation market at present,there are some translators who have misunderstood the translation of business contracts as something that could be easily completed after some training and memorizing of fixed phrase and expression patterns.Out of this,many random translations come into being,which greatly influences the multinational economic cooperation.As a matter of fact,there are diverse types of business contracts,and the author in this paper would mainly focus on the translation of leasing contract.The material of this thesis comes from an online company which the writer has worked as part time translator for a long time.During this period,the writer has done a lot of translation practice,and generally won good comments from the clients.The text selected in this paper is a leasing contract based on business relationship between Shanghai BeiFang Logistics Co.LTD and its foreign business partners.The whole contract covers a wide range of articles,including the rights and obligations of both parties,clauses governing the renewal of lease,termination of the contract and so on.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,the author of this paper analyzed her own translation of the leasing contract and summarized appropriate translation methods through this practice.Based on this translation report,the writer hopes to offer some enlightenment and useful advice for other translators in this field.
