| With a boom of science and technology and increasingly strengthening of comprehensive national strength, supported by opening-up and reform policy,an increasing number of foreign countries are seeking for cooperation with China in terms of highway engineering construction. This contributes to the increase in the number of engineering project overseas and further promotes the needs and demands of interpreting talents.Serving as a bridge for communication, interpreters can hold a key role in this process. However, they are confronted with such difficulties as linguistic knowledge,extra-linguistic knowledge and analysis ability.Studies on how to address these difficulties are quite limited. This report explores the problems behind interpretation of “Jamaica Mandela Highway Improvement Programme” Project and proposes some suggestions under Gile’s Interpretation Comprehension Equation. The examples and cases are from the author’s interpretation for business negotiations among Chinese management and Jamaican businessman and CEO in National Works Agency. In this report, the author found out that such knowledge of language as accent and vocabulary,extra-linguistic knowledge as professional knowledge and background knowledge are the main barriers to the interpretation.Thereafter, the corresponding solutions with concrete examples are put forward, such as accumulation of knowledge of language, expansion of extra-linguistic knowledge as well as interpreting techniques including amplification, reorganization and omission.Ultimately, the author makes a conclusion of self-reflection and suggestions for interpreting learners, further underscoring the significance of enhancing interpreter’s qualities and professional capabilities. |
