A Study Of XA Type State Adjectives In Chinese Dialects

State adjectives is a major topic in the study of adjectives.The thesis conducts a comprehensive and detailed study of XA type adjectives in Chinese dialects,in the hope of making new findings of XA type adjectives in Chinese dialects and modern Chinese.The thesis,based on a constellation of linguistic data selected from the Comprehensive Dictionary of Regional Dialects of Modern Chinese,probes into the description and analysis of XA type adjectives in Chinese dialects.The first part explores "A" s of XA type state adjectives in Chinese dialects.In the beginning,the thesis makes a statistical analysis of "A"s in different places,and after that categorizes "A"s into two groups:one to describe persons and the other to describe objects.The thesis finds that the second type outnumbers the first type.In addition,the thesis divides "A"s into frequently used ones and general ones from the perspective of their combination ability.The second part analyzes "X"s of XA type state adjectives in Chinese dialects."X"s in Chinese dialects take many forms:nominal morphemes,verbal morphemes,adjective morphemes,adverbial morphemes and other morphemes."X"s of XA type have a marked tendency of grammaticlization,but are different from the usual prefixes.The third part discusses the grammatical functions and semantic features of XA type state adjectives in Chinese dialects.XA rype state adjectives can be used as predicates,attributives and complements,but mostly as predicates in Chinese dialects.From the semantic point of view,XA type state adjectives in Chinese dialects are rich in emotional color,and their emotional colors are mainly determined by "A"s.XA type state adjectives in Chinese dialects are depictive and convey a strong sense of perception when used to describe the image of A with X.The fourth part studies related variants of XA type state adjectives in Chinese dialects and sets XXA type state adjectives and XAXA type state adjectives as research objects.In terms of quantity of degree,the relationships of the above three types of adjectives are as follows:XA<XXA,XA=XXA,and XA>XXA.Moreover,XAXA,strengthened in subjective quantity,are more expressive than XA.The thesis,from a macro view,analyzes the features of XA type state adjectives in Chinese dialects,including the numbers and distribution of "A" and "X",and elucidates their grammatical functions and semantic features.
