A Chinese-English Translation Practice Report On Construction Organization Plan

In recent years,with the continuous improvement and perfection of China’s construction engineering technology,the overall level of its construction industry has increased.At the same time,more and more Chinese construction enterprises step into the international.From the tender to the construction,a lot of translation work is needed,and the requirements for translation tasks are also getting higher and higher.In order to ensure the smooth implementation of the cooperation project,the other party must have an accurate and comprehensive understanding of our engineering project.This requires translators to act as bridges to translate the original text into the target language and to convey the required information.According to the author’s search on major websites,there are few English translation versions about Construction Organization Plan,and even less related foreign documents.The construction organization plan is used as the translation research object in this English translation report and guided by relevant translation theories in order to study the translation skills and translation strategies of architecture English texts.The translation project is commissioned by Mr.Zhou Yanxue who works in Construction Committee of Zhao Dong city,Hei Longjiang Province and the author translated some of the chapters of the company’s Construction Organization Plan.It includes the third chapter of the construction organization,the fourth chapter of the construction preparation and construction of the general layout,as well as the ninth chapter to the thirteenth chapter about the guarantee measures.The report records the whole process of translation practice,including the analysisfor the characteristics of raw materials’ translation,how to use translation theory to guide practice,how to use different translation techniques and methods to focus on the selection of classic cases,and how to make the translation both faithful and easy to understand.In addition,the author also summarizes the experience gained in the translation practice.The author would publish some personal views on the text of the construction project,including the text analysis,the accumulation of professional vocabulary and the related materials,and the important role of post-calibration in improving the quality of translation.In this paper,the translation practice project Construction Organization Plan will be the research object,with Peter Newmark’s semantic translation and communicative translation theory as a guide to analyze the type and characteristics of architectural English text.Before translation,a large number of related materials and terminologies are consulted.With the basic knowledge of architecture,parallel texts and corpus are established to lay the foundation for later translation tasks.Furthermore,the textual analysis of the original text of the project is conducted,the intratextual and extratextual factors are analyzed in order to determine the translation purpose of the project.In the process of translation,the typical cases in translation texts are selected and analyzed.Starting from vocabulary and sentence patterns,the translation skills and methods are summarized.It aims to deepen the understanding of relevant theories and provides reference for similar text translation in the future,in order to promote the future study and translation work.
