A Translation Report Of New Zealand Arbitration Act 1996

The passive voice is a form of verb commonly existing in English and Chinese,a special language phenomenon,which is used to explain the relationship between the subject and the predicate verb.However,the use of the passive voice in English is more than in Chinese,especially in legal texts.This paper is a translation report of New Zealand legislative text,which is an important part of New Zealand Arbitration Act 1996.In this legislative text,there are more than 100 sentences with the passive voice.Because there is no Chinese version of the legislative texts in New Zealand,the author mainly uses the translation methods of the passive voice in the Australian Arbitration Law translation as a reference.The study of the passive voice in legal English is very rare,and it should be considered whether to retain the passive form or not in the passive voice translation.Therefore,it is necessary that the translation of the sentences with passive voice should be systematically explored and analyzed.The author will focus on the Chinese translation techniques of the passive voice,and try to make the translation more close and faithful to the original text.This report includes four chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,which briefly introduces the background of the selected materials,the significance and the frameworks of this report.The second chapter is the literature review in which the author discusses the domestic and foreign research on the passive voice in legal English.In the third chapter,the author will analyze the translation methods of the passive voice by taking the sentences in the selected text as examples.The last chapter will summarize the lessons gained in the course of translation,which needs to be improved and hopes to provide valuable reference for the translation of the passive voice in legal texts in the future.
