This report is based on the author’s personal experience as an interpreter inJiangsu Burgeree New Technology Materials Co., Ltd during the internship. The authorworked as an escorting interpreter when American clients visited Burgeree. Based onthe interpreting practice at airport, conference room, workshop and banquets, the reportanalyzes three problems during escorting interpretation which are the embodiment ofsubjectivity consciousness, conflicts caused by cultural difference and interpretingquality control under escort condition, and puts forward relevant solutions for theseproblems. The report is composed of five chapters. The first chapter is the description of thetask including the introduction of the two parties the background of the visit. Thesecond chapter is about the pre-interpreting analysis and preparation. Thepre-interpreting preparation and common problem-triggers in escort interpretation arepresented in this chapter. The third chapter describes the whole process of theinterpretation. The fourth chapter is for the case analysis. It is also the key part of thewhole report. The problems in the interpretation are analyzed one by one with specificcases under the guide of relevant theories. The fifth chapter is the summary of thepractice which consists of the experience concluded from this practice and the author’ssuggestion for the future study of interpreting.Through the task description and case analysis, the author finds:(1) Subjectivityconsciousness of interpreter plays an important role in the whole interpreting process.Excessive use of subjectivity consciousness may lead to the problem that theinterpreter may add too many personal opinions in the interpretation which overuseshis or her right as an interpreter. Absence of subjectivity consciousness makes theinterpreter just act as a “conduit” instead of a “mediator” or “gatekeeper".(2) Manyconflicts may occur in interpretation due to cultural differences. To avoid theseconflicts, the interpreter should do a good preparation about the cultural differences and try to be a qualified mediator.(3) Compared with other types of interpretations, theworking sites of escort interpreting are not fixed. The environment sometimes hasmuch negative influence on the quality of the interpretation. Therefore, the interpretershould pay more attention to the listening and understanding of the source language aswell as the expressing in target language so as to guarantee the interpreting quality andmake all participants understand each other well.
