A Report On The Translation Of Re-powering Markets-Reliability,Adequacy And Scarcity Pricing

This translation report is a summary of the translator's translation practice.The source text Re-powering Markets,which is published by International Energy Agency,is an academic report on electric power.This academic report has ten chapters and describes the market design and regulation during the transition to low-carbon power systems.Chapter Four,Reliability,Adequacy and Scarcity Pricing,is chosen to be translated by the translator.This chapter has about 11,000 words and is divided into two parts: the first part is about regulation of reliability and the second part about scarcity pricing.In general,the source text belongs to a scientific text with large amount of technical terms,passive structures,long and complex sentences and so on,therefore,the translator decides to translate by using computer-aided translation(CAT)software—Trados.Because frequently using long and complex sentence is an obvious feature in this chosen part,the translator focuses on the translation skills of long and complex sentence in scientific texts by constantly summarizing the translator's translation experience in this translation report.This translation report is divided into six chapters.The first chapter is an overview of task,introducing the text source,requirements for translation delivery and text types.The second chapter describes some preparations before translating,such as character recognition,word extraction,creation of new project and pseudo-translate.The third chapter introduces the translation process,including the creation of new Termbase and new Translation Memory,edition of target segments and how to use Google search Engine.The fourth chapter is the core of this translation report.The translator divides these long and complex sentences into six categories and selects relevant cases for analyzing to ensure the fluency and accuracy of the translation.The fifth chapter compares the translator's translation with the approved translation to find the translation errors or inappropriate translations in the translation,summarizing the reasons and making improvements.The last chapter is the conclusion for the whole translation report.Through a large number of translation practices and the comparison of the translator's translation and the approved translation,the translator finds many deficiencies,such as wrong term translation,unnatural expressions,and wrong understanding of the content,etc.The translator will pay more attention to these shortcomings when translating in the future.At the same time,the purpose of this translation report is to provide reference for other translators who need to complete EST translation tasks by sharing the translator's own practices.
