A Study Of The English Versions Of Xi Jinping's Diplomatic Speech From Xu Yuanchong's "Three Beauties" Theory

Xu Yuanchong is one of the most famous translators in our country.At present,the study of his translation works and translation theories has been a considerable size;especially the use of his theories in the translation of poetry and prose has aroused the concern of many experts and scholars.But the use of his theories in translating other styles,especially diplomatic speeches,is rare.The language for President Xi Jinping's speech at Seattle and his speech at the Boao Forum for Asia in 2015 is highly subtle,concise and also expresses the beauty in sense,the beauty in sound and the beauty in form and he also delivers Chinese government standpoint,viewpoint and Chinese culture to foreign friends at the same time.From the perspective of Xu Yuanchong's "Three Beauties" translation theory,this paper chooses the representative language in Seattle and Boao Forum for Asia speeches as the objects of study,through the analysis of the original speech and translated text to study how translator reproduce the "Three Beauties" in translation and approve "Three Beauties" translation theory is applicable to diplomatic speech translation.The thesis first reviews the current situation of Xu Yuanchong's translation theories and speech researches.Then the author briefly introduces Xu Yuanchong's theoretical system and the theory of "Three Beauties" translation.At last,the author elaborates the reproduction of beauty in sense,sound and form in Xi Jinping's speeches.Among them,beauty in sense is analyzed from stylistic features and rhetoric devices;beauty in sound from rhyme and reduplicated words;beauty in form from antithesis,parallelism and repetition.This paper aims to show the strategies and characteristics of diplomatic speeches translation and the reproduction of the three beauties in President Xi Jinping's diplomatic speeches translation,and to explore the applicability of the "Three Beauties" theory to the translation of diplomatic speeches.At the same time,the author hopes that this article will arouse many scholars'concern of the Chinese leaders' diplomatic speech translation research,so as to generalize the Chinese culture through diplomatic lectures in future.
