Since Since the twentieth century,movies have been presented as a new art form to the public with much attention and adoration.At the same time,movie posters emerge as the time requires.It can also be referred to as the secondary art form of the movie,with the aim of giving the audience an initial understanding of the movie's theme and content,and guiding them to the cinema to watch.Visual symbolic language,as an essential message,plays the role of soul media in the design of movie posters.The quality of the visual symbolic language communication is the primary issue in the whole movie poster designing.Whether the visual symbolic language is expressed explicitly or not,it depends on whether the audience can clearly interpret the information space created by movie poster designers in the form of movie posters.To create a compelling movie poster,it must have a substantial visual impact,a rich content level,beautiful ideas and other aspects of integration.Such elements can quickly and accurately convey the message of the movie to the audience.This paper takes visual symbols as the primary research object,to re-examine the movie poster design of the various forms of elements to the symbolic language performance to provide the most efficient expression.The development of movie poster design in overseas was earlier than that in China.The research results,in theory,are quite productive.Some film and television production companies in Hollywood have a full-time film poster production planning team and movie poster designers.At present,the research on the application of modern symbol development in China is relatively weak.The research on visual symbols in movie posters is still rare.The visual symbols in the design of movie posters express the unique artistic style through the three elements of text,color,and figure.In this paper,the main entry point of the topic research is also the depth analysis of the applicable rules of the three.The visual symbol in the poster is not found in its form or in the structure itself.Instead,the visual element of the possible unintentional state is transformed into an image-oriented visual image through the reconstruction of visual symbols.The visual symbols in movie posters are generated by three ways of thinking,generalization,and metaphor.They are conveyed through the semantic and context of the symbol itself and have the three characteristics of arousing,intuition and universality.The function of symbols in movie poster design is an essential argument of this topic,mainly covering three aspects:information communication,emotional communication,and transmission culture.Based on the theory of semiology and applied to the visual design of performance,the dissertation divides the symbols into two parts:signifier and signifier in the theoretical system of Ferdinand de Saussure.A signifier is a form of a symbol,usually representing a sound,a word,or an image;the signified is an object represented by a symbol,pointing to something that is associated with it.On the one hand,the visual symbols in the design of movie posters are used to rationally analyze the movie poster design through the characteristics of symbols;on the other hand,the application rules and application methods are summed up during the summarization process,and symbols are studied hierarchically and systematically.This thesis combines the theory with the application,the author sums up the research conclusion of the inductive argument,with the classic movie "Scissor Edward" as the theme.After the integration of the discussion,respectively,the design of four different movie posters to demonstrate the contents of the thesis to the actual design,thereby enhancing the practical value of the thesis.
