A Project Report On The C-E Translation Of Regulations Of Jiangsu Province On Small Food Workshops And Food Vendors Management

The international dissemination of China's rule of law culture is a significant link in advancing the modernization of governance system and capacity,in which the C-E translation of local rules and regulations has become more salient.This project report,resting on the C-E translation of Regulations of Jiangsu Province on Small Food Workshops and Food Vendors Management,expounds on the lexical and syntactical features of legal texts,presents major difficulties in the translation process and cause analysis,and puts forward corresponding solutions.In this project report,major translation difficulties are mainly categorized as lexical and syntactical ones.At the lexical level,terms with Chinese characteristics,four-character phrases and fuzzy expressions are major obstacles to the translation;at the syntactical level,long sentences including enumerative long sentences,and “de(?)” structured sentences provoke difficulties for the translator.Under the guidance of the principles of accuracy and preciseness and the principles of clarity and conciseness,at the lexical level,referring to parallel texts is used for translating terms with Chinese characteristics;four-character phrases are translated through conversion;literal translation and adjustment are adopted for fuzzy expressions;at the syntactic level,long sentences in the general clauses are translated through linear processing and reorganization while converting for form unity is employed to translate enumerative long sentences;“de(?)” structured sentences can be added logical subjects and transposed into conditional adverbial clauses.The analysis of the translation difficulties and the consequent targeted solutions in this project report are expected to provide legal translators with some food for thought and thus make due contributions in boosting the awareness of safeguarding the image of the rule of law in China.
