The Current Situation And Relationship Between Self-concept, Time Perception And Career Maturity In Middle School Students

With the implementation of the new college entrance examination reform and the needs of middle school students in career exploration,it is necessary to carry out career planning education for students.In order to know middle school students’ career development level and its influencing factors,we use career maturity to measure students’ career development level,and select two influenced factors: self-concept and time perspective to predict career maturity.And we use the self-concept scale,time perspective scale,and career maturity scale to measure 1144 students both from Hainan Overseas Chinese Middle School and Ding An Middle School.The results are as follows:(1)There are significant difference between urban and rural areas students,boys and girls,students with different grades,students with different grade rankings,students with different father’s degrees,students with different mother’s degrees for self-concept,time perspective,career maturity.(2)Self-concept is negatively correlated to past negative and present fate,but positively correlated to past positive,present enjoyment,and future;Physiological self negatively predicts past negative and present fate;Psychological self negatively predicts past negative and present fate,positively predicts now enjoyment and future;Social self positively predicts past positive,present enjoyment and future;Family self negatively predicts past negative and present fate,positively predicts past positives and future;Moral and ethical self negatively predicts now fate,positively predicts past negative,past positive and future;Self-criticism positively predicts negative past,present enjoyment and present fate,negatively predict future.(3)Physical self,moral and ethical self,psychological self,family self,social self are significantly positively correlated to career maturity,and self-criticism is significantly negatively correlated to career maturity.Mental self and social self positively predict oncareer maturity.(4)Past negative,present fate are significantly negatively correlated to career maturity and negatively predict on career maturity.Past positive,present enjoyment,and future are significantly positively correlated to career maturity,and positively predict on career maturity.(5)Past negative,present fate,future played a mediating effect between self-concept and career maturity in middle school students.
