This translation report is based on the completion of the task of translating A History of Canada.Written by Charles George Douglas Roberts, the “Father of Literature” of Canada, the book is on Canadian history. This book is an indispensable reference for scholars at home and abroad to study Canadian history,so this translation task is of great significance. There is no text without coherence. The coherence of a text is like the bone in a human body. Its importance is self-evident.Translation is a text-based activity.Coherence is the intangible network that makes up a text. This translation practice report is based on coherence in translation, with a purpose of solving practical problems encountered in translation and providing practical translation methods for later translation practice. This report consists of five parts. The first part is the background, significance and requirements of the translation practice task. The second part is the task process, including three aspects: pre-translation preparation, translation process and post-translation correction. The third part is the description of problems encountered in this translation practice task and its reason analysis. The fourth part is the solution to the problem, which is discussed from three aspects. The first is to establish the semantic logical consistency of the translation, including omission, addition, adjustment of word order, conversion tense, and pronominal anaphora translation method. The second is to establish the cultural cognition coherence of the translation by using literal translation to supplement the full context and free translation adding annotation. The last is to establish pragmatic attitude coherence. The fifth part is a summary and some reflections of translation practice.
