A Report On The Translation Of History Of English Language In Sudan:A Critical Re-reading (Excerpt)

This is a report based on the E-C translation of an informative text,History of English Language in Sudan:A Critical Re-reading,written by a famous Sudanese linguist A.M.Yeddi Elnoor.The translation report mainly consists of four parts,which are the task description,translation process,case analysis and the conclusion.Firstly,task description is mainly a brief introduction to the main contents and features of the original book,its author and significance of the task.Secondly,the whole translation process is introduced from three aspects:preparations before translation,while-translation and proofreading after translation.Thirdly,two translation techniques are introduced based on the characteristics of the source text.Case analysis is the critical part of the report,in which the author of the report tries to deal with the difficulties encountered in translation process by using division and combination,such as difficulties in translating simple sentences and long and complex sentences.Meanwhile,the author also focuses on how to apply the two techniques into translation practice through numerous case analyses.In the part of conclusion,the author summaries gains after translating the source text and reflects on the translator's competence so as to get improvement when translating the same type of texts in the near future.
