As China's external exchange continues to increase, more and more international companies and cooperative projects are now flooding into the country, accompanied by interpreters – the people who play an important role in interpreting activities. This requires interpreters to have higher abilities and qualities. However, due to contemporary interpretation research starting relatively late in China, most research has stayed in the stage of language theory,or emphasis on bilingual transformation. There is rare study on interpreting by itself, and even rarer from the perspective of gender, though gender is a hot topic in translation.Since its development, the androgyny theory has continuously improved in the practice of translation and has enriched and injected new understandings, for it has played a significant role in the study of interpreter differences.Based on the androgyny theory, transcribed statistics for male and female interpreters, and the research corpus from the Finals of the 4th ACIC in 2016,this thesis aims to analyze and expound different sexes' interpreting lexis such as degree words, high frequency words, long words, and conjunctions. It is hoped that this study combining the androgyny theory and a given case study will prove to be an effective guidance for future interpretation activities.Under the guidance of androgyny, combined with the use of case studies, the following conclusions can be drawn: There are significant differences in the language characteristics of male and female interpreters;particularly when referring to score rankings, where most female interpreters interpreted better than males.Females also used a higher number of degree words and conjunctions when compared to males, despite the fact that the latter used more frequency and long words.Special cases were also identified for both male and female interpreters.According to the theory of androgyny, this special case can be explained, which breaks the inherent rational that women are more suitable for interpreting work than men.Under the guidance of this theory, the interpreter can clearly recognize gender differences so as to effectively convert gender awareness within interpretation, that is,handle the task more objectively and change their interpreting style at any time, and on different occasions.Using this concept of androgyny, interpreters can maximize their gender advantages in interpretation and meanwhile preferably complete the task.
