The source text is the Report on the Work of the Government of Hongshan District(Work Review of 2016 and Work Plans for 2017).Since many foreigners have been holding stereotyped views on the Chinese government,by translating the source text into English,their negative stereotypes would be changed gradually,which would be beneficial for the Chinese government to rebuild a positive international image.Under the guidance of the cohesion theory proposed by Halliday & Hasan,the practice report will analyze the translation of the source text in detail.Since their cohesion theory focuses on improving the coherence and logic of a language from the two aspects of grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion,the practice report will also discuss the methods of enhancing the logic relations from the two aspects.During the translation,the author put much focus on analyzing the covert cohesion in the source text.Then,the author transformed the covert cohesion in the source language into overt cohesion in the target language so as to ensure it conforms to the cohesion patterns of the target language and improve coherence of the target text.In the course of this translation activity,certain translation strategies and methods were adopted so as to convey the inner logic of the source text and to realize the overt cohesion in the target text.Under the guidance of Halliday & Hasan's cohesion theory and by using proper translation methods and strategies,the cohesion and coherence of the target text were greatly improved.This practice report is of considerable importance in applying the cohesion theory in the translation of the report on the work of government.Meanwhile,it will also provide reference for translators who translate texts of similar type.
