The translation report is based on the translation of Gender,Genetics, and Generation: Reformulating Biology in Lesbian Kinship and relevant terms in the appendix, which focuses on the biological role played in lesbian kinship. The source text is selected from an anthology of academic paper — Same-Sex Culture and Sexualities: an Anthropological Reader.Featured by highly-specialized requirements, scientific contents and formal diction, academic papers present the significant results of some researches or studies in different fields, providing valuable academic references for scholars and researchers in some particular field. Therefore, the translation of an academic paper is bound to grasp its characteristics.Firstly, the translation should accurately and completely convey the author's thoughts;secondly, the translated version must readable,so that readers can understand the content. At the same time, the translation version should conform to the objective and normative requirements of academic papers and become academic reference materials. The analysis of the thesis aims to provide an experience in the translation of academic papers and explore translation techniques for academic papers. The author uses the material not only for the embarrassing situation of the study of lesbians kinship and relevant ethical issues that deserve much notice, but also for the finding of feasible solutions to the obstacles that may arise in the translation of academic papers with the help of the Skopos theory, and aims to provide some suggestions for the translation of similar texts. This source text is an academic paper, which includes loads of professional terminologies, professional knowledge, and long and complicated sentences. However, owing to the insufficiency of the research in this field, only rare materials can be found. At the same time, due to the differences between Chinese culture and Western culture,as well as different thinking modes and languages, much more challenges and difficulties have become the obstacles to the translator..Guided by the Skopos Theory, this report tries to find proper techniques to translate academic papers from the lexical and syntactic perspectives,For example, literal translation, shift of perspectives,splitting-up and other strategies are adopted to solve the problems that have occurred in the translation process. It is no surprise that the translation techniques cannot solve all difficulties in the translation of academic papers, but this translation project could provide some practical suggestions and experience for other translators.
