A Report On The C-E Translation Of Introduction To Transportation (Rail Transport) From The Perspective Of The Skopos Theory

In recent years,the rail transport science and technology of our country realizes the leapfrog development,with abundant gratifying achievement and attracting worldwide attention.It not only promotes the development of the national economy,but also becomes an important link for international exchanges and cooperation.In order to study the international standards of rail transport technology,strengthen international technical exchange and cooperation,promote our rail transport technology and achieve the goal of a scientific and technological power,we must attach importance to the translation of rail transport texts.In this paper,a Chinese English translation practice report of rail transport text is presented.The author selects the Chinese textbook Introduction to Transportation(Rail Transport)as the material for translation practice,and makes a technical analysis and induction on the translation process,hoping to experience a more systematic translation process in the true translation practice.As German Functionalist Vermeer's Skopos theory is especially suitable for the pragmatic text translation,this report makes it a theoretical framework to analyze the translation strategies and methods for different language phenomena in rail transport text,such as terminologies,parallel structure,non-subject sentences,paratactic structure and so on,by giving specific cases study,thus to show how to realize the three rules of the Skopos theory.Finally,the author reflects the process of the translation task,pointing out the limitations in practice and giving suggestions for future study.Through this translation practice,the author finds out that: 1)Under the guidance of Skopos theory,the translator's purpose is to convey information accurately.According to the expected purpose and function of the target text,appropriate translation strategies and methods,such as lateral translation by addition,omission,conversion,etc,should be chosen to achieve proper technical translation.2)In order to achieve a successful translation of rail transport text,translation does not necessarily satisfy the three rules of Skopos theory at the same time.The translator should choose the translation strategies and methods flexibly.3)The rail transport text is rather comprehensive.The successful technical translation depends on the daily accumulation and a great deal of practice in the specialized field.
